What is COP 21?

We should probably start off defining some terms...
  • COP 21 - The 21st Conference of Parties. This will take place in Paris and is a big deal because the United Nations lead negotiators are supposed to come to a legally binding contract to help keep the temperature change under 2°C.
  • UNFCCC - United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is a treat made by the United Nations to start in 1994.

Who will be there?
  • 194 Countries in addition to the European Union
  • Major world leaders (President Obama, President Hollande, etc...)

What will you see?

Above is a quick break down of the schedule of the themes for each day. As student observers we will have access to the lower level talks, mostly informational and not an actual negotiation. We will get the chance to hear from other countries as they give their perspective of how the climate is changing.

I like how this article breaks down what will be spoken about on what day. I'm very impressed how much is covered and how many people attend these conferences. One main question I have is how did they decide to meet in Paris, France? and also, Can they break down and tell which country is costing the most effect on global warming negatively?
